Automata is building a world-class company and disrupting the automation industry with Eva, the first low cost high functioning Industrial Automation Robot. We’re changing the perception that robotic technology is expensive and complex, by empowering people to automate physical aspects of ‘work’.

In order to deliver award-winning automation, our Manufacturing Operations have to be as innovative as our robot. To achieve this, we use a range of hardware and software tools to diagnose faults and collate data for analysis. This ensures that assemblies function correctly, processes are complete and we have records to show what we’ve done and how we’ve done it.

We’re looking for a software engineer who’s excited to integrate our R&D python software projects into useful, functional test production assets.

This role will be focusing on the production and modification of embedded and software tools for use in production and in-house testing. The goal of these tools is to guarantee that we know every robot we will build is a ‘good robot’.

We would like to find driven people who are excited by technical challenges and love working as part of a team.

No robotics experience needed but curiosity and passion appreciated!

Main activities:

  • Creating software for measurement tools used in manufacturing to assess components and the outputs of processes, store test and inspect outcomes
  • Developing jigs and fixtures for measuring assemblies performance and compliance
  • Modifying production boards to accommodate minor positional changes to components and modification of footprints under with the support and mentorship of Senior Engineers

Supporting activities:

  • General housekeeping to ensure files/materials/resources are correctly stored and equipment is brought into the building
  • Assisting in the construction of jig rigs with other teams which effect Manufacturing
  • Day to day production fixes
  • Investigations into failure modes of processes and tools involving software and firmware
  • Sourcing alternative electronic components for the build as necessary

What will you bring to the role?

  • Demonstrable experience working in a technical environment
  • You are highly proficient in Python
  • Basic working knowledge of C
  • Technical degree in computer science or similar

Non-essential experience:

  • Used PCB design software (preferably Altium)
  • Experience debugging electronics, firmware, hardware in production environments
  • Understanding of, or interest in learning, Continuous Integration (DevOps)
  • Developed firmware for embedded devices
  • Ability to read & understand electronics schematics
  • Knowledge of Linux & orchestration tools such as ansible
  • Experience laying out or modifying designs in a production environment

What gets us excited?

We’re passionate about the future of Technology and Robotics and our growing success is built upon like-minded individuals who share our passion.

The software chapter is an eclectic mix of people but we’re unified by our passion to make a robot that’s so easy to program your Nanna could do it. We love meme montages, Dungeons, Dragons and type constraints.
