We are Automata. We've developed a simple, affordable and easy to programme automation solution in the form of Eva, our robotic arm, and Choreograph, our easy to use robotic operating system. You can learn more about us here before deciding if this role is right for you

Automata is looking for a hands-on, quick-learning Applications Engineer to support us in a multi-million pound project for a globally recognised organisation. You will get to work on one of the largest robotic lab deployments in the UK as well as a variety of other exciting projects in and around Europe.!

As an Applications Engineer, you'll be utilising a unique blend of your multidisciplinary engineering knowledge and commercial acumen to provide solutions using the Eva robot, its accessories and services.

This role sits at the core crossover between our engineering and commercial teams. Your technical expertise will ensure that we attract and win bids and tenders for new and existing clients. Our clients come from a broad range of sectors including manufacturing, research, product testing, automotive, engineering, and academia.

You will act as the point of contact for clients and provide them with pre-sale and after-sales advice. This role will sit within our commercial team, but you’ll have close connections to other departments including support, product, and engineering.

What you’ll be doing

  • Taking the lead in demonstrating the capabilities of the Eva robot arm
  • Acting as a domain expert for the Eva robot arm, Choreograph, and our API
  • Developing close relationships with clients through managing and developing their requirements
  • Provide pre-sales technical assistance and product education
  • Designing proof of concepts in CAD
  • Writing small snippets of code to demonstrate the Choreograph API/SDK
  • Create small 3D printed parts such as gripper fingers and alignment jigs
  • Identify opportunities for the commercial team to add value to customers through additional products and services
  • Travelling to customer sites in the UK and Europe to help deploy and develop projects

What we want to see in you:

  • You should have a degree in an engineering discipline
  • Ideally, you took a multidisciplinary degree that exposed you to a range of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering skills. Alternatively, you’ve had experience in these outside of the classroom and can demonstrate them to us confidently
  • You are a confident user of a CAD platform (such as SolidWorks)
  • You have experience using 3D printers
  • Can talk to customers with confidence without assistance
  • Some experience with programming (e.g. Python)
  • You have some experience using programming languages to connect to APIs
  • Basic knowledge of electronics (soldering, writing, digital/analogue IOs)

Is it right for you?

We’re open and honest about our roles, so want to help manage your expectations. This a junior/intermediate role and salary expectations will reflect this.

If any of the following apply to you, it’s not likely that this role is the right fit.

  • You're unable to commute to London
  • You’ve only learned programming informally through online courses and websites such as Coursera or Codecademy
  • You don’t enjoy interacting with clients
  • You’re not comfortable with public speaking (such as webinars)
  • You’re not a fan of taking the lead in conversations
  • Sponsorship is unavailable for this role

Unfortunately we are not able to offer sponsorship for candidates outside the EU for this role.

We usually respond within a week
